Auto Technology’s Cyclic Corrosion Test Chamber Equipment

The Auto Technology Cyclic Corrosion Test (CCT) chamber is built for versatile and repeatable testing.

It’s an industry leading solution for a reason: The chamber consists of several distinctive features that distinguish it from other products in the market.

  1. Versatile testing capabilities: The chamber can automatically cycle between various environmental conditions — salt fog, high humidity, low humidity with dry-off, dwell, and ambient conditions — in any combination and duration. This flexibility allows for comprehensive corrosion testing that meets a wide range of national and international standards, including automotive, military, ISO, and ASTM specifications.

  2. Construction: Entirely corrosion-resistant, the chamber ensures years of durable service despite exposure to corrosive solutions. The design provides natural insulation, contributing to accurate, repeatable, and reproducible test results by maintaining consistent internal conditions during testing. Our machine bodies and covers are made from fiberglass, but we also employ the use of glass, plastic and metal throughout the unit.

  3. Transparent peaked cover: The chamber features a transparent cover that allows users to view test specimens without interrupting the corrosive environment. Its peaked configuration prevents condensation from dripping onto the test specimens, adhering to ASTM specifications. The cover also includes a dual-magnetic seal for enhanced durability and performance.

  4. Advanced control packages: Users can choose between Standard and Computer control packages. Both come with pre-programmed industry test specifications for immediate use. The Standard package includes a programmable logic controller (PLC) and can store up to 15 tests with 18 steps each. The Computer package offers more advanced features like data logging, customizable test profiles with up to 50 steps, and optional remote diagnostics.

  5. Unifog dispersion tower: This feature ensures uniform fog distribution throughout the chamber using an inverted cone design. The adjustable cone can be manually raised or lowered to direct the fog according to specific testing requirements, providing consistent and controlled exposure to corrosive environments.

Beyond these five features, the CCT chamber also offers practical design elements like front-access panels for easy maintenance, a large 60-gallon salt solution reservoir for extended testing periods, and optional enhancements — solution spray systems, immersion capabilities, and controlled humidity controls to meet specific testing requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the common questions people ask about cyclic corrosion test chambers.

Before I choose one solution over another, what features should I look for?

Before you decide on a solution, ask yourself the following questions.

  1. What testing capabilities does the chamber offer? Can it automatically cycle between various environmental conditions such as salt fog, high humidity, low humidity with dry-off, dwell, and ambient conditions? Moreover, is it capable of running these cycles in any combination and duration to meet a wide range of industry standards?

  1. What materials are used in the construction of the chamber? Is it made entirely of corrosion-resistant materials to ensure durability over time? And, does the design provide natural insulation for accurate, repeatable, and reproducible test results?

  1. Does the chamber feature a transparent cover for observation? Can you view test specimens without interrupting the corrosive environment? By extension, is the cover designed to prevent condensation from dripping onto the specimens (e.g., a peaked configuration)? As you consider this, also ask how secure and durable the sealing mechanism of the cover is.

  1. What control systems are available? Does the chamber offer advanced control packages like programmable logic controllers (PLC) or computer controls? And, are industry-standard test specifications pre-programmed for immediate use? On this front, the other questions to consider are how many test profiles and steps can be stored and customized, and is data logging and remote diagnostics available for monitoring and analysis?

  1. How is fog distribution managed within the chamber? Does it have a system to ensure uniform fog distribution throughout the testing area? Or, is there an adjustable mechanism to direct the fog according to specific testing requirements?

  1. What is the capacity of the solution reservoir? Does it have a large enough reservoir to allow for extended periods of uninterrupted testing? And, are there features — like an auto-fill function — to minimize manual intervention?

  1. Are there practical design features for ease of use and maintenance? Ask yourself if there is easy access to components for maintenance through removable panels. Just as important, consider if there are safety features incorporated to protect both the user and the equipment.

  1. What optional enhancements are available? Can the chamber be equipped with additional features like solution spray systems, immersion capabilities, or controlled humidity controls? Are there options for data logging enhancements or additional sensors?

  1. How accurate and reliable are the monitoring instruments? Does it include high-accuracy gauges and sensors for precise control of testing conditions? And, are the humidity and temperature controls capable of meeting your specific testing parameters?

  1. What support and future-proofing does the manufacturer offer? Can the control systems be easily updated or customized for future testing needs? Moreover, ask if technical support is readily available.

How does a cyclic corrosion chamber differ from a traditional salt spray chamber?

A cyclic corrosion test chamber differs from a traditional salt spray chamber by offering more advanced and versatile testing capabilities.

While a traditional salt spray chamber performs continuous exposure to salt fog, a cyclic corrosion test chamber can automatically alternate between various environmental conditions, such as salt fog, humidity, dry-off, and ambient periods. This allows for more realistic simulation of real-world environments, providing a better assessment of a product's corrosion resistance under varying conditions.
