M Series Steel Salt Fog Chambers
The Industry Benchmark for Data Continuity
The M Series steel salt fog chamber has been the cornerstone of corrosion testing for more than 75 years.
Despite advances in materials and control technologies, professional laboratories around the world continue to rely on coated steel salt fog chambers because data continuity matters. These are the chambers labs have used for decades—often across multiple product generations, coating systems, and qualification programs. When consistency, drift control, and historical comparability are critical, the M Series remains the trusted standard.
In addition to unmatched continuity, the M Series leverages water-jacketed construction to deliver exceptional temperature stability across long test durations—reducing gradients, minimizing drift, and supporting tighter control requirements.
The M Series also includes a 55-gallon external salt solution tank with integrated mixing capability, providing a stable, well-homogenized supply of test solution for extended test durations. This configuration supports consistent solution concentration, minimizes operator intervention during long exposures, and aligns with laboratories that prioritize repeatability, documentation consistency, and uninterrupted operation.
Command Controls (Standard)
The M Series is equipped with Command Controls, a hardware-based control system that provides precise temperature regulation and power control through dedicated physical knobs and switches. In ISO-, FDA-, and quality-system-regulated laboratories, this design minimizes unintended setpoint changes, reduces operator ambiguity, and supports repeatable operation across shifts and test programs.
By avoiding software-dependent interfaces for core environmental controls, Command Controls deliver deterministic behavior, immediate feedback, and consistent performance during long-duration corrosion exposures—supporting stable test conditions, simplified operator training, and long-term reproducibility.
Exposure-zone RTDs and ports for specimen-plane measurement and traceable sampling.
Temperature Measurement (RTDs – Standard)
The M Series utilizes RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) sensors positioned directly within the exposure zone to measure actual specimen-level conditions. By sensing temperature where exposure occurs—rather than relying solely on jacket or supply air temperatures—the M Series supports highly repeatable control and defensible temperature measurement during long-duration corrosion testing.
RTDs are selected for their long-term stability and predictable response, aligning with laboratories that prioritize data continuity, traceability, and reproducibility across multi-year qualification programs and regulated test environments.
M Series Customization & Upgrade Options
Over time, Auto Technology has developed a comprehensive suite of options that expand the capabilities of the M Series while preserving its inherent stability, repeatability, and reliability.
High-Temperature & Advanced Test Capability
Ambient Temperature Control
Automatic Air Lifters – Enable return to true ambient conditions by automatically lifting the chamber lid to introduce controlled ambient air during defined portions of the test cycle. This supports test methods that specify ambient dwell or natural recovery periods while maintaining repeatability and operator safety.
Gas & Cyclic Testing Capabilities
SO₂ Testing Package – Metered SO₂ dosing for standards such as ASTM G85 A4, DIN 50018, JIS H 8502 10.1, and JIS 8502 8.7.
Chamber Configuration & Handling
- Low-Profile Configuration – Reduced overall height for easier specimen loading and ergonomic access
- High-Profile Configuration – Increased internal clearance for larger specimen geometries and fixtures
- Standalone Data Logger – Independent recording of chamber conditions
- Shutdown Timer – Automatically shuts off pressurized and humidified air for unattended operation
Utilities & Infrastructure Options
- Bubble Tower DI Holding Tank – Provides a local DI water source for laboratories without direct DI supply
- Jet Exhaust Scrubber – Allows venting to a floor drain instead of overhead exhaust
- Jet Exhaust Recirculating Scrubber – Reduces water consumption dramatically while maintaining safe exhaust handling
- 55-Gallon External Salt Solution Tank + Mixing – Stable, homogenized solution supply for extended programs
