Description

The Auto Technology M Series Size 15L CASS salt spray chamber, equipped with the High Temperature Package, is configured for copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray testing under ASTM B368 and the CASS method of ISO 9227. The chamber combines indirect water-jacket heating, conditioned atomizing air, baffled salt spray generation, and a corrosion-resistant exposure zone in a compact 12 ft³ (339 L) platform.

CASS testing uses an acidified sodium chloride solution containing copper chloride and operates at a higher chamber temperature than neutral salt spray or acetic acid salt spray. The High Temperature Package allows the M Series to operate at the elevated chamber and humidifying-tower conditions associated with these methods.

CASS Salt Spray Chamber Contamination Control

CASS solution contains copper chloride and acetic acid. ISO 9227 notes that a cabinet used for CASS can be difficult to clean sufficiently for subsequent NSS or AASS operation. Residual copper can alter the corrosivity of later exposures.

A dedicated CASS salt spray chamber is therefore the preferred configuration for laboratories performing routine CASS work or maintaining tightly controlled NSS and AASS programs. If a chamber is changed between methods, the cleaning, collected-solution verification, and cabinet-corrosivity verification requirements of the applicable standard must be followed.
