Salimeter 11-606 Hydrometer – C280220
$132.40
C280220 is a Salimeter 11-606 glass hydrometer for manual NaCl concentration measurements. The salt-concentration scale incorporates the conversion from density to NaCl percentage. Measure at the specified calibration temperature or apply the appropriate correction. Confirm the range and calibration requirements against your laboratory procedure before ordering.
Description
The C280220 Salimeter 11-606 Hydrometer uses solution density to measure NaCl concentration. The glass float has a numbered salt-concentration scale for manual readings. Unlike a specific gravity hydrometer, the salimeter’s salt scale already incorporates the density-to-concentration relationship.
Measurement Specifications
- Model: 11-606.
- NaCl range: 0–26.4% by mass.
- Scale increments: 0.5 percentage point.
- Calibration temperature: 60 °F, approximately 15.6 °C.
- Construction: glass.
- Approximate length: 305 mm.
Using the Salimeter for ASTM B117
Place the salimeter hydrometer in a suitable cylinder containing enough solution for the hydrometer to float freely. A denser solution makes the hydrometer float higher; a less dense solution makes the hydrometer sink farther. Read the scale where the liquid surface meets the stem, following the supplied meniscus-reading instructions.
ASTM B117 requires the collected solution to contain 4–6% NaCl by mass. The 11-606 salt-percentage scale reports concentration by mass rather than percent saturation. A reading of 5% means 5 grams of NaCl in 100 grams of total solution.
Allow the solution and hydrometer to reach the same temperature. Keep the hydrometer clear of the cylinder walls and remove bubbles attached to the glass before reading.
Temperature Correction and Verification
The hydrometer does not automatically compensate for temperature. Measure at the specified calibration temperature or measure the actual sample temperature and apply the appropriate correction for this hydrometer and NaCl solution. Do not use a generic correction intended for a different liquid or scale.
The scale interval is not a statement of measurement accuracy. Establish verification and calibration checks appropriate to your laboratory procedure. Confirm any required calibration certificate or traceability documentation when ordering.
Care and Related Supplies
Rinse and dry the hydrometer according to the supplied instructions and protect the glass from impact. Residue, contamination, bubbles, and incorrect sample temperature can affect the reading.
