MIL-STD-810 Method 509.7 Salt Fog Chamber
The Auto Technology C Series Size 20 is configured for the neutral salt fog and ambient drying conditions used by MIL-STD-810H Method 509.7. The method is used to evaluate protective coatings and finishes and to identify physical, electrical, and corrosion problems associated with salt deposits.
The C Series combines atomized salt fog, chamber heating, touchscreen sequencing, and automatic ambient-air transitions in one corrosion-resistant cabinet.
Method 509.7 is a screening procedure: MIL-STD-810H does not present salt fog exposure as a direct predictor of coating service life. Test duration, item configuration, operational checks, and any variations must be established in the approved test plan.

Method 509.7 Exposure Sequence

Fog Generation and Chamber Interior

- Venturi atomizer produces a finely divided salt fog.
- Baffled dispersion reduces large droplets and direct specimen impingement.
- Humidifying tower conditions the compressed air used for atomization.
- Solution-contact components are constructed from corrosion-resistant materials.
- Exposed solution drains from the chamber and is not returned to the reservoir.
Touchscreen Cycle Control

The touchscreen sequences chamber heating, salt fog, and ambient-air drying phases. Operators can select stored programs, monitor chamber status, view alarms, and access manual functions.
Optional data logging captures chamber-performance information on the controller memory card. Independent calibrated instruments may also be used to satisfy laboratory reporting requirements.
Drying-condition requirement: The C Series introduces laboratory air during the dry phase. The laboratory must maintain standard ambient temperature and less than 50% RH for the chamber to reproduce the specified Method 509.7 drying condition.
